Do you remember that commercial in which a dad, standing outside of a car, imparts safe driving tips to his licensed-daughter; only, we see that through his eyes, his daughter is no more than 7 or 8? I so loved that commercial. As someone who refused to believe that my daughter hadn’t been celebrating her 12th birthday for the past 6 years, I so got that commercial.
But… this year, the year of her 18th birthday, has had me trying to accept the fact that she is no longer 12. That she has likes and dislikes, mannerisms and inflictions, that are so different to mine. And, while am trying to grow my own self up to all this, guess what she does? Yup – she goes and turns the tables on me!
A few months short of her 18th birthday she decides to begin her rebellious streak! Yup, a few months ago, she decided to become a vegetarian! The funny thing is, I was around her age when I decided to go the vegetarian route myself. I’d never really told her what age I was, so when she came to her decision, I had to pinch myself at how similar we were – unknowingly! Of course, back then, when I first came to Atlanta to attend college, I did not have delicious and convenient MorningStar Farms® Veggie Bowls in delicious Chik’n Pot Pie, Chik’n Tikka Masala, Italian Sausage Bake, Japanese Soba Noodles, & Moroccan Medley at my fingertips. So, one sniff of my mom’s chicken curry after being away for a year, had my will power tanking!
While I don’t consider myself a vegetarian, I don’t eat a ton of meat either. But, ever so often, I get a hankering for some pork or chicken. This past weakened, I was walking around Walmart when that hankering hit. As we had heard about MorningStar Farms® Veggie Bowls, we decided to bring 4 of them home to try. And, I gotta say, the 100% vegan chik’n strips (in the Chik’n Pot Pie & Chik’n Tikka Masala) to the Veggie Sausage Crumbles™ (in the Italian Sausage Bake) to the 100% vegan steak strips (in the Japanese Soba Noodles), had me saying “what hankering?!”
These veggie Bowls were not only delicious, but they make it easy for me to substitute a veggie option for meat in a meal, making these MorningStar Farms® Veggie Bowls good for me AND good for the world! They also happen to be a quick and easy “as-is” meal solution – especially when you are doing the Holiday Hustle!
4 Tips to incorporate more veggies into ya diet during this season:
• Have some carrots and celery in your fridge – so when you need to snack, you can reach for those first.
• Make sure you have canned beans and kale or spinach in your fridge – it’s easy to sneak them into a bowl or curry!
• Stock your freezer with a variety of MorningStar Farms® Veggie Bowls for those nights when you are just too busy to cook – this way you can heat one of these up instead of heading out for a burger and fries!
