This past weekend, I was asked what my all time favorite movie was – and, based on the number of times I’ve watched it over the years, “A River Runs Through It” was my answer. In case you haven’t watched it, it is a movie about a father (a preacher) who teaches his sons (played by Brad Pitt and Craig Sheffer) the analogy between fly fishing and life. Sure, the first half-dozen times I watched it was because I thought that Brad Pitt was simply dreamy. But, over the years, I’ve found myself drawn to that movie because of how it uses fly fishing through an unpredictable stream with grace and courage to show us that such grace and courage are paramount in wading through this unpredictable thing we call life.
With that said, today is my daughter’s first day of 12th grade! While she has always enjoyed school, this year she is in a hurry to move on to her next phase and not thrilled about the unpredictability this next year holds. She keeps wishing she could skip her senior year of high school and find herself in her freshmen year of college. To say she is anxious about the whole college application/selection process is putting it mildly. But, sometimes, we have to put aside our feelings and just face each day with as much grace and courage we can muster. And, seeing my daughter has my genes, I know that her grace and courage can be easily fuelled with some Indulgent Weekend Waffles With Peanut Butter And Brownie Butterfinger Cookies in them!
This past weekend when my daughter and I were at Kroger in the middle of stocking up on eats and treats for her to pack for her school lunches, we came across New NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Brownies & More with Butterfingers & NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Brownies & More with chocolate morsels. As the directions on the box specified that these Nestle Toll House Baking Mixes were highly versatile and could be used to make cookies with as well, I figured I’d bring them home and use them to whip up a batch of back-to-school brownie cookies for our neighbors and us.
As my daughter and I were walking back after dropping some off with our neighbors, my daughter kept bugging me about having brownie cookies for breakfast the next morning. After reminding her that she is 17 and not 7, I began to think why couldn’t she? After all, I am a staunch supporter of dessert before dinner! But, at the same time, I didn’t want to show her that I was letting her win this round. I mean grace and courage are not cultivated with an easy win – right? So, I figured I would crumble up some of the brownie cookies I made with NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Brownies & More with Butterfingers & NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Brownies & More with chocolate morsels into my go-to waffle mix and make us some Indulgent Weekend Waffles to enjoy.
