Flourless Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Icing
A totally flour-less chocolate cake with peanut butter icing and a decadent chocolate “ganache” – made even better with raspberries and bananas!
Ooh – today I am super psyched (not psycho) to have been invited by Becca from It’s Yummi to a party with 26 fellow bloggers!
Now – this isn’t just any party; this party, hosted by Carla from Chocolate Moosey and Miriam from Overtime Cook, is over flowing with some special eats and treats!
Eats and treats that are chock full of…CHOCOLATE…AND…PEANUT BUTTER!!! ๐ฏ
Both – in one – (yesssss…I am giddy) as today, we are celebrating Chocolate Peanut Butter Day 2.0! We even have a hashtag: #ChocPBDay
Now, IMO, chocolate + peanut butter = a marriage made in heaven – kinda like Alice and Dale Rockey’s. Though chocolate and peanut butter have been enjoyed here in the States for more years than the Rockeys have been married, my love affair with it started about 5 years ago.
Growing up, I never had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich; in fact, I don’t recall ever having a peanut butter and chocolate cup back then, either. When I came to Atlanta to attend college, I was always puzzled by the jars of peanut butter my roommates worked their spoons through. But, a few years ago, I finally gave into curiosity and grabbed a jar of peanut butter to add to my oatmeal. As fate would have it, a few chocolate chips fell off of a chocolate oatmeal muffin I had made for my daughter, and, landed in my oatmeal…and…while I don’t believe in love at first sight…this was love at first bite!
As my daughter and I have a nasty sweet tooth – I try to come up with some somewhat better-for-us treats.
Somewhere along the line, I came across a flour-less chocolate cake, and while I don’t remember where I first saw it, or, for that matter, what the recipe exactly was, I have immensely enjoyed eating my experiments!
This cake isn’t the prettiest (I think I am gonna need to sign up for some cake decorating classes soon). What this cake is is a simple flour-less chocolate cake – no oat flour, no rice flour, no flour – period. Just eggs, cocoa, brown sugar, melted dark chocolate and butter (and some vanilla and salt – which are optional). I have substituted coconut oil for butter in some versions – with the result being a less dense, though – still tasty, cake.
The icing on this is simply a peanut butter, confectioners sugar, and coconut oil concoction – topped with some decadent chocolate and coconut oil “ganache”. My daughter suggested topping this with some fruit, to make it seem that this would be truly “better-for-us”, but, those bananas and raspberries certainly upped the taste actor of this cake!
If you happen to be just as psyched as I am about chocolate + peanut butter; please check out these other fabulous chocolate and peanut butter recipes by fellow bloggers! Don’t worry, I won’t think you are psycho to make them and eat them all – unless, you don’t invite me over!

Beautiful cake, Shashi! I love the fruit on there. Delicious!
Thanks so much Cindy – yes, the fruit complemented the PB and chocolate so well!
Oh my this looks heavenly. I love all things peanut butter and chocolate
Me too!!! Thank you Allie! ๐
That looks so rich and fudgy and incredible!
Thanks so much Renee!
Peanut butter and chocolate is my favorite flavor combination of ALL TIME. This cake is heavenly!
Thanks so much Joanne!
I’m totally pysched about chocolate and peanut butter. I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to it!
This looks amazing Shashi! Love that you were able to make it without flour. I’ve gotta try.
Have a blessed and beautiful Wednesday!
Thanks so much Melanie! I gotta stalk out your Pinterest boards to see your PB & Chocolate collection – you know, I could never have enough of these two! ๐
I hope you have a wonderful and blessed rest of the week too!
xx
So pumped to be celebrating the tastiest day of the year with you lady! Now how about you send over about 10 slices of this cake, and no one gets hurt? ๐ Pinned!
Haha – I was so psyched to get in on this party!!!! By the way – send me your pancakes and we have a deal!!! – cool???
Oh and – I saw your reply about Chopped!!!! Oh my goodness!!!! I am so so so happy for you!!! So when will you know???? When are the tryouts???? OOOH – I sure hope you get selected!!! I cannot wait….please please do let us know so we can watch!!!
Now, here is the chocolate and peanut butter Shashi I know! Loving your healthy-ish twist with coconut oil in this flourless chocolate cake–a favorite at our house. Cannot wait to try your recipe, girl. Thank you for sharing and enjoy the rest of your week!
Hahaha – Oh Stacy! Thank you!!! You know me too well!!! On those days I don’t post PB & Chocolate recipes, just know that I eat PB & chocolate oatmeal 5 mornings a week! ๐
Hope you have a wonderful week too, sweet friend! xx
Shashi! This is seriously one of the best looking cakes I’ve seen in a long time. Cake decorating classes? No way! Save the money on those and just send me a slice of this cake instead. And lil Shashi’s idea of topping this with fresh fruit is golden…we’ll make a food blogger out of her yet! ๐
P.S. I love peanut butter sandwiches…but no jelly. I don’t like jelly mixing in there with my peanut butter. Go figure.
Oh David – you are way too kind! Thank you my friend! But I’m thinking that lemon coconut cake you made was on the top of the list of best looking cakes I’ve seen!
Dude – you don’t like jelly on your PB’s??? How about bananas and honey and PB on bread that is then put on the stove top or grill – oooh ooey gooey pb and honey and nananers…please tell me you are a fan….
Not the prettiest?! You crazy! I think it looks gorgeous, and ohhhhhhh so good. But I’d have to replace the PB with AB ๐ And I never had a nut butter and jelly sandwich growing up either. In fact, I don’t think I had my first taste of almond butter until I was around 24 or 25… I thought I was allergic to ALL nuts when I was growing up, so I’m kind of over the moon that that wasn’t the case! #pinned
Aww shucks – thanks so much Amanda!
Hey – are you allergic to pistachios? I saw another blogger make pistachio butter earlier this week – and I remember having a pistachio cake once in NYC where they had used pistachio paste – this cake was phenomenal!
OMG I’m going to spend the next hour going through all those recipes. Your cake looks amazing!!! And, like you, it wasn’t until I moved out of Australia that I discovered the wonders of peanut butter and chocolate. PB is a rare foodie love in Australia!
When I was in Sri lanka – I don’t ever remember hearing about it either! None of my friends even brought a PB&J sandwich for lunch – ever! Funny eh?!
By the way – thanks so much Tara!
This looks amazing! I love all of your pictures, the cake looks so moist and the frostings are lovely ๐ definitely checking out a ton of those recipes… I have like 50 tabs open now ๐
Haha – Thank you so very much Medha!
Because flourless chocolate cakes are such a big thing at Passover, I’m well familiar with them. But adding peanut butter is just brilliant. Brilliant I tell you! I’ll be doing that from now on!
Thanks so much Anita!
I think you decorated this cake beautifully, Shashi! It looks beyond incredible! Totally agree, chocolate and peanut butter is the ultimate combo and I love the bananas and raspberries you added on top! The flourless cake makes this even more irresistible! <3 it!
You are so sweet – thank you so much Kelly! xx
A very beautiful and tempting cake! Who could ever resist the combo of chocolate and peanut butter? I surely can’t.
Thanks so much Angie!
Choc and PB is the BEST combo! Love this and all of these fabulous recipes!
Thanks so much Ashley!
I love flourless chocolate cake! What a great idea to use peanut butter icing with it!
Thanks so much Coleen!
I love that you topped yours with fruit! I so rarely add fruit to my peanut butter creations but it sounds great and would make it seem less sinful haha.
Haha – the illusion of less sinful can be powerful ๐
thanks so much Erin!
Wow! There’s really no flour in this? I would have never guessed! It is gorgeous and I’m betting it tastes just as good as it looks!
Thanks so much Lisa!!!
What a fantastic cake my friend. Can you send a slice over here asap please?
Thanks so much my friend – a slice is in the mail to ya! But, you might not get it if you happen to have David’s post-lady ๐
Who doesn’t love the combo of chocolate and peanut butter? One of my favorites. Your cake looks spectacular. And wouldn’t be safe if I was around. ๐ Really good — thanks.
Haha – thanks so much KR!

Chocolate + peanut butter is just the best combo! What a great party theme! This looks absolutely fantastic Shashi – I have zero desserts in the house right now (grocery shopping tomorrow) and it is killing me! haha This is not helping ๐

Haha – sweet tooth lovers unite – right?! ๐ Thanks so much Mira!
IMO, chocolate and peanut butter is absolutely a match made in heaven. And I have a mouthful of sweet teeth. I absolutely love the look of your cake. It’s gorgeous. And I love how it’s flourless – the best cakes always are! Your presentation is beautiful xx
Hahaha – I love your reference of a “mouthful of sweet teeth” – love that so much, I just might have to borrow it!

Shashi, this cake is seriously gorgeous! I’m in love with every element: that dense dark flourless cake, the incredible PB filling, that rich ‘n creamy chocolate ganache and the beautiful way you decorated the top. I wish I had a few slices right in front of me now!
One word. Gorgeous! Really, no more needs to be said.
I love peanut butter with cheese! I will have to try peanut butter on my oats next time we have them for breakfast ๐
Is there a worldwide chocolate peanut butter day? I feel that there should be! And this should be the centrepiece along with the other glorious creations! ๐
From the outside, this cake is a real stunner. Then you see the inside and that glorious, dense texture and I’m in chocolate and peanut butter heaven. What a beautiful cake, in all ways!
I just want to climb up a ladder and dive into this cake! It’s that good!

Girl, I would seriously stuff my face with that goodness. Looks ridiculously good. Such a nice thing to get together to make this deliciousness. You definitely need to make me this when we meet, I promise I’ll share a slice;))
What are you talking about, Shashi- this cake looks BEAUTIFUL…so decadent! If only someone would invent a technology to enable us to eat through screens…maybe it’s a good thing no one has actually. Lord knows I would have no self-control ;)! Seriously though- is there anything better than the PB & chic combo…in the form of a perfectly moist, fluffy cake? I DIE!
This literally looks like heaven on a plate for me! Oh MY!!!!
