  1. Hi Shashi, thank you for sharing the recipe! This might just be another way to get my little picky eater to eat beet! Any chance I can substitute the quinoa flour and hazelnut meal with either normal flour, whole wheat, buckwheat or oat flour? Hoping to make this for dinner without having to go to the store or to have to add to my flour collection > < Sorry I know it's a big change to ask for!

    1. Hi Ding- yes you most definitely can sub in all purpose flour or whole wheat flour – it should work with the same quantity but might want to add it in a quarter cup at a time to make sure.

  2. Hi, it’s a very nice recipe. I am vegetarian so pl suggest what I can use substitute of
    egg for pizza dough

    1. Hi Renu – you could try using a flax egg? A flax egg is made with 1 tbsp of flaxseed meal mixed with 3 tbsp of water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to thicken and use for 1 egg.

Can I substitute almond meal or something else for the hazelnut meal?

  5. Kim Steiner Muni says:

My daughter-in-law is allergic to hazelnuts. What other type of gluten-free flour could I substitute?

    Thanks!

    1. Hello Kim, you could use almond meal – if your daughter-in-law is however allergic to all nuts – then I’m thinking you could use oat flour (ground up oats)

Stumbled upon this recipe and I must say, this is a definite must try! Great idea! 😀 – R

  7. OK, I am so intrigued by this!!! I’ve seen cauliflower crust but never beet crust!!! LOVE this!! Pinned and must try!!!

  8. Beetroot pizza base – wow. I have been trying to eat more beetroot lately. This has inspired me to put it in a pizza base and use hazelnut meal for the first time! Thanks 🙂

  9. I’m a personal chef & forwarded this recipe to a family I cook for. Yesterday it was on the “menu” 🙂 Crust turned out beautiful- added rosemary to the crust and topped it with chicken sausage & carmelized onions. Great recipe!

    1. Oh wow – I am beyond honored – thanks so much for trying this out! I love your idea of adding rosemary – andLOVE the caramalized onions – I need to try that next time. Thanks so much for letting me know, your comment made my day!

  10. This pizza crust looks beautiful! I’ll definitely be making it soon 🙂 Would it be possible to sub more quinoa flour instead of the hazelnut meal? I don’t have any hazelnut meal on hand, but I wasn’t sure if replacing it would change the texture or anything.

    1. Thanks so much Hannah – I have tried this crust with plain quinoa flour and it was a tad more dense – the hazelnut meal seemed to lighten it up – if you had almonds, you could grind them up and add them – would love to know how it turns out for you.

  11. What a great post! Love beets and the sure do make for a gorgeous pizza. Very creative! After the beets were roasted, did you grind them in a food processor?

  12. What an incredible story – so inspirational! And this pizza is gorgeous just like you sweet lady and such a great idea! I love the pretty vibrant color from the beets! Love the new look and these photos are stunning 🙂

I love beets and would prefer this over beer any day of the week. It’s gorgeous.

    1. Haha – thanks so much Maureen! But now am wondering what a beer crust must taste like 😉

Loved this post, made me smile. What an incredible pizza, that crust!!!

  16. First, that story is amazing. And big yay since he is from Durham – which is where we live : ) It always amazes me when people have such a great attitude – I had a co-worker who passed away from ALS and she was always so so positive until the very end. It was pretty incredible.

And I cannot get over the color of this crust! It is stunning!

    1. Thanks bunches Ashley.
I am so sorry about your co-worker – but I am amazed by her attitude inspite of her circumstances!

That you for sharing that story about Chris. I had never heard it before, but it’s actually very inspiring!
Your colorful pizza definitely put a smile on my face! 🙂 This is seriously something I need to try. I love cauliflower pizza, and this looks just as amazing! Do you know if I could substitute spelt and/or coconut flour for the quinoa and hazelnut flours? Just because I have those two on hand. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Alex 🙂

I am thinking coconut or spelt flour might work fine – coconut flour seems to absorb alot of liquid – so you might have to alter the coconut oil accordingly – if you try using them, I sure would love to know what you think

  29. Ummm, I want to be like Chris when I grow up too…what a beautiful human being! I love all the positivitey in your posts girlfriend!
I also lurve this pizza! I’ve tried the cauli crust and it was yum…but, beets? SO MUCH PRETTY. I like pretty, healthy food. Wanna try! Pinned!

    1. Chris is indeed a beautiful person – such an inspiration!
Thanks so much my friend! I sure hope you do try this!
      xxs

  30. Beat Crust Pizza?! I can’t say I’ve tried anything remotely close to this before. I never knew pizza put be good for me! Maybe this is why my doctor is worried about my cholesterol. That tomato paste, perfect. We’ll be getting a lot of tomatoes in the garden soon maybe I can get my wife to try and make her own paste. I will have to get my wife to make this!

    1. Thanks so much Tom – my picky daughter loves this crust – and that’s saying alot! I hope your wife does get to make this – am intrigued by your wife’s own homemade tomato paste…

  31. Stephanie Schostak Metzgar says:

  32. Khushboo Thadani (@KhushbooThadani) says:

Pizza is always a beautiful thang but this crust is another level of beauty- such a stunning color. I’ve enjoyed cauliflower pizza in the past so I have no doubt that I will be a fan of beet pizza too. Great use of hazelnuts too- I feel so silly for having never thought to use them in flour form!

    1. You, my friend, are are from silly! 🙂
And thank you oodles and oodles for your kind compliment!

  33. its so beautiful and colourful….Sure it is delicious too

  34. I’ve never seen a more beautiful pizza in my life. I wonder if it’d work to stuff the crust w/ cheese too? Yes I’m on a stuffed crust piza kick! Haha.

    1. Jessie – that would be a brilliant idea to stuff the crust with cheese – the dough is very wet, but if you could add more flour (of your preference) to get it to roll over the cheese – you might have a wonderful pizza on your side!
