Chocolate Drizzled Hazelnut Bites
How quickly can you add 9152 + 8599? Or, come up with the answer to 95 x 89? Nope – this isn’t a math test – but, I was mesmerized by an advertisement I saw that showed 7 and 8 year olds adding 4 digit numbers and multiplying double digit ones in less time than it usually takes me to hit my snooze button Monday through Friday! I don’t remember what the product was that helped them compute so quickly – but, in honor of their quick computing, I decided to make the 3 day weekend we just had, into a 7 day weekend! Yup, I took most of last week off and, instead of planning a trip to someplace outside Atlanta or actually heading out on a trip out of here (like I usually do), I stayed put and enjoyed a stay-cation with my kiddo. Other than fighting off hornets, my daughter and I did venture outside of our yard – one of the places we ventured to was the Swan House. The Swan House, which is part of the Atlanta History Center, was built in the 1920’s and has gorgeous woodwork and embellishments throughout the house. From fireplaces, to chandeliers, to even the walls – there’s so much to “ooh” and “aah” about – that is if you are into architecture and/or The Hunger Games & Catching Fire, as in both movies, The Swan House was used as President Snow’s home. But, you don’t have to be a fan of the Hunger Games/Catching Fire to be in awe of the beauty of the interior and the exterior grounds of this amazing place. Not pictured were parts of the trail that looped around The Swan House through dense woods. All that trail walking and exploring left us gals famished and I sure was glad to have packed some of these little bites to nosh on! These bites are packed with energizing Bob’s Red Mill Hazelnut Meal and almond butter; and drizzled with chocolate – they are a reason to not need my snooze button in the morning! However, trying to share them equally with my daughter always leaves me wondering about my own math skills!

Ingredients
- 3 cups hazelnut meal I used Bob’s Red Mill
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 cup almond butter
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Mix all the ingredients well in a bowl and form into bite sized balls/bites
- Place on a parchment lined baking tray and bake for 20 minutes
- Melt chocolate in a glass bowl over boiling water or in a microwave at 30 second intervals
- Drizzle on top of bites and let cool before devouring.

Hazelnut and chocolate, you said? I’m in!
But what about that gorgeous house? I honestly thought it was somewhere in England, like in Oxfordshire or something. Which means that I need to take a trip down South asap.
Mike – this place was AWESOME – there were too many pictures to include in one post – but there was a working vintage car too and a working plantation! If you come down South – I will personally hand over some of these bites to you!
Great post, Shashi, with great photos to go with it. The Swan House looks like the ‘stately homes’ we have over in England. They are so much fun to visit! The hazelnut bites sound perfect for healthy getting-through-the-afternoon snacks!
Thanks so much Helen – I remember visiting some of those stately homes when I was in London as a youngster – I used to be so mesmerized by their beauty!
Yum! I so wish I had a mother like you when I was younger – I only got store-bought cookies for snacks!
Oh Tara – you are so sweet – thank you! But sometimes my daughter wishes she had store bought cookies instead of healthy stuff – am hoping when she is older she will appreciate these healthy bites more.
So if I ever come visit, you’ll make me a batch of these bites and take me to see President Snow’s house, right? 😉 These look delicious, Shashi! And I especially love that you drizzled them with chocolate –nothing better than the combo of nuts and chocolate!
YES! And really – do you even need to ask? 🙂
So when are you coming?
I love that you got to spend some time with your daughter and a staycation sounds perfect! The Swan House looks so amazing and so do these cookies! The hazelnut meal is such a great idea and combined with the almond butter, these sound like the perfect energy bites especially with the drizzle of chocolate! Love these and wish I had 9152 + 8599 of these for breakfast 🙂
Hahahaha – Oh Kelly – If I had made 9152 + 8599 of these, I would have FedEx-d some your way!
Thanks so much sweet lady!
I’ve been in Atlanta for nearly 10 years now and have visited very few of our landmarks. I tried to save them for out of town guests but we don’t get as many of those as I would like. Maybe I should start tempting my family with treats that include hazelnut and chocolate! 🙂 I think I could eat a whole mess of those just by myself.
Thanks so much Sashi – we should get together for coffee sometime – I will bring you some of these – deal? 🙂
Have you been to the Aquarium? or Stone Mtn?
Def want to check out the Swan House next time I’m in town! And I’m so sorry we couldn’t meet up this time around. But since you live so close to my parents, we’ll definitely make it happen next time! Can’t wait!
Don’t worry about this time, Parita – you have my number so lets try and plan something FOR SURE next time! I don’t believe your parents live so close to where I am!
The Swan House has a “Capital Tour” at 4pm where they show you areas used for filming in the movie and you get to see props etc – in case you loved the Hunger Games and wanna plan accordingly!
I hope you had a wonderful time! It sounded like a fabulous trip!
These bites look soooooooo delish! Seriously – chocolate AND hazeltnuts??????? SO GOOD. That combo is heavenly <3
Thanks so much Consuelo!
<3
These look pretty darn amazing! I’ve never used hazelnut meal before but I’m mighty intrigued!
Thanks Chris! Baking with hazelnut meal is dope! The texture is out of this world – I add it to my beet pizza crust too.
i haven’t used hazelnut meal in forever! i need to again! love that Atlanta has beautiful history! fun outing indeed
Thanks Lindsay – I have been on a couple o ghost tours around Atlanta and Savannah and the stories I have heard are amazing – they go so far back!
Your staycation sounds like so much fun! Especially with these hazelnut bites in your bag for fuel throughout the week! YUM.
Thanks Joanne – unfortunately, those bites only lasted a couple of days 🙁
These nutty bites have all my favourites. Can’t wait to give it a try! Thanks for sharing, Shashi.
Thanks so much Angie – if you do try these, I would love to know what you think – P.S. am so glad your comments are showing up now 🙂
They look amazing !! must try these soon !! thanks Shashi !!
Thanks so much Stephanie! If you do make them – I sure would love to know what you think
As much as I love to travel, staycations can be just as fun! The Swan House looks amazing…super cool that it was featured in The Hunger Games. These bites look so decadently delicious. As much as I love the PB/Chocolate combo, I think the hazelnut/chocolate combo might actually be my number 1! Have you ever tried the chocolate Ferrero Rocher? If not, you NEED to asap!
Oh Khushboo – I HAVE tried THE Chocolate Ferrero Rocher – and good golly WOW – I refuse to buy them because I cannot breath the air that surround s them without loosing all self control! 🙂
Thanks so much my friend.
I would LOVE that house and will have to remember that when I visit my son in Atlanta. I hope it’s soon. Maybe I’ll have him make some of these hazelnut bites to enjoy afterward. 🙂
Maureen I remember you saying you son is in Atlanta – well – if you do come for a visit, it sure would be an honor to meet up with you!
I am delighted to hear that you could take some quality time with your family and do something other than fight off hornets… Great little chocolate drizzled hazelnut bites and gluten free too. Just shared! Take care, BAM
Hahaha – thanks so much Bam – I was glad my whole time off was not spent fighting hornets too 🙂
