If you happen to love the tops of muffins and Dubai Chocolate, these scrumptious Dubai Chocolate Stuffed Muffin Tops are for you.
Recently, I have been on a bit of a Dubai Chocolate kick. When I started seeing reels of a chocolate bar stuffed with luscious pistachio cream mixed with crunchy shredded phyllo dough, I wondered what the hype was about.
So, I made some at home. And, wow. The perfect union of creamy pistachio butter balanced with the crunch of roasted kataifi enveloped in rich chocolate. To me, they are pure perfection.
The viral Dubai Chocolate Bar was the result of a collaboration between Nouel Catis Omamalin and Sarah Hamouda, the founder of Fix, a decadent and unique chocolate shop located in Dubai. Fix seems to specialize in chocolates that are stuffed with everything from phyllo pastry to custard. And, their now viral “Can’t get knafeh of it,” AKA the Dubai Chocolate Bar, is now available worldwide. It even showed up at a Costco near me!
However, if the Dubai Chocolate Bar eludes you, it can easily be made at home with homemade pistachio butter or pistachio cream, roasted kataifi pastry, and your favorite chocolate. The best part about making your own version is that you can use whatever chocolate you love. I have made these Dubai Chocolate Cups with white chocolate chips as well as dark chocolate. I tossed a few of those cups in the freezer and used them as the center of these chocolate muffin tops.
By the way, you can get your hands on pistachios (to make homemade pistachio butter), premade pistachio cream, and kataifi at most Middle Eastern grocery stores or on Amazon.

This is a small batch recipe that yields only 4 muffin tops. I adapted a recipe for Sugar-free Double Chocolate Muffin Tops, which is one of 51 muffin top recipes in my cookbook, Muffin Top Mania. My adaptation was to use sugar instead of a zero-calorie sweetener and omit the extra chocolate chips and instant coffee.
So, these muffin tops are rich chocolate muffin tops encasing a delicious chocolate cup made with creamy pistachio butter and crunchy roasted kataifi pasty. Creamy, crunchy, sweet, and rich, these muffin tops are a delightfully delicious blend of texture and flavor.

What are the ingredients needed to make these Dubai Chocolate Stuffed Muffin Tops?
You will need the following 11 ingredients, most of which you probably have in your own kitchen (minus the Dubai Chocolate):
- Almond Flour
- All Purpose Flour
- Sugar
- Sea Salt
- Baking Powder
- Cocoa Powder
- Egg
- Almond Milk
- Olive oil
- Vanilla Extract
- Homemade Dubai Chocolate Cups (frozen)
Variations and Adaptations
In this section, I have a few suggestions for alternative ingredient substitutions
- Almond Flour + All Purpose Flour
Instead of using a combination of 1/2 a cup of almond flour and 1/2 a cup of all-purpose flour, you could use 1 cup of almond flour or 1 cup of all-purpose flour. When I use almond flour, I add in a teaspoon or so less almond milk and less olive oil. And, when I use only all-purpose flour, I add in more liquid. Also, if you are following a gluten-free diet, your preferred gluten-free all-purpose flour can be used too. Another option is to substitute the almond flour for an equal quantity of ground pistachios.
- Sugar
If you do not want to use sugar, I have made these muffin tops with a zero-calorie sweetener (linked here).
- Cocoa Powder
I used Dutch-processed cocoa. But feel free to use your favorite cocoa. Or, if you are using ground pistachios, the cocoa can be left out so the beautiful subtle green tint of the pistachios can shine through.
- Almond Milk
Almond milk can be substituted for any other nut milk, dairy-free milk, or dairy milk.
- Olive oil
I have used melted coconut oil on a few occasions when making these muffin tops. Or, you could make these even more luscious and use the same tablespoons of butter. Just make sure to melt the butter first by carefully microwaving it in a microwave safe dish.
- Homemade Dubai Chocolate Cups
These can be replaced with some store-bought Dubai Chocolate Bars. If these bars are large, just break them into small pieces first. Make sure to freeze these small pieces so they hold their form as the muffin tops bake.
Directions
- Start by gathering all your ingredients.
- Then, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius.

- Add the dry ingredients such as almond flour, all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, and cocoa powder to a medium bowl. Using a spoon or spatula, mix the dry ingredients together.

- Then, add the wet ingredients such as egg, vanilla extract, almond milk, and olive oil to the dry ingredients and mix well. The batter will be quite thick. Do not try to thin it out. The thicker the batter, the more these muffin tops will dome.
- Grab a baking pan and line it with a Silpat or parchment paper.
- Add four large tablespoons of the batter to the silpat or parchment.
- Then, add a frozen Dubai Chocolate Cup or bar on top of that tablespoon of batter.
- Add another tablespoon or two of muffin top batter on top of the Dubai chocolate cup/bar.

- Using the back of the spoon or a butter knife, gently tease the batter on the top and bottom of the Dubai Chocolate cups, so the batter covers the Dubai Chocolate cup entirely.

- Pop the baking pan into the oven and let these bake for 18 – 20 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool down to room temperature. This gives the Dubai Chocolate cups time to solidify a bit so when you bite into these Dubai Chocolate Muffin Tops, the chocolate doesn’t melt everywhere.

Once cooled, these can be enjoyed as is.
But, I like to dress these up some. I like to slather on some pistachio butter on top. Then, melt some chocolate chunks in a microwave safe bowl or double boiler, and drizzle the melted chocolate on top. Then, I sprinkle on some chopped pistachios and dig in!
Storage and reheating
These Dubai Chocolate Stuffed muffin tops will last for about a week in your fridge when stored in an airtight container. They can also be frozen for several weeks. They should be wrapped in plastic and then placed in a plastic bag before being placed in the freezer.
To thaw them out, unwrap them and place them on a plate on the kitchen counter. When they reach room temperature, they are ready to enjoy. Alternately, they can be defrosted using the defrost setting in your microwave until they have lost their chill.

We loved the Dubai Chocolate Cups recipe you shared so I know we will love these! They look delicious!
I have your cookbook and my family has loved the few “MTS” recipes I have made – including the double chocolate one here. Like here I made mine with sugar. We got some mini Dubai Chocolate Bars from Costco recently so looking forward to making these MTs again and stuffing them with Dubai Chocolate Bars.
Muffins tops are the best part of muffins! These look sinfully delicious and droolworthy.
I go from not hearing about Dubai Chocolate Bars to seeing them everywhere this morning. 🙂 I guess that’s just the universe telling me it’s time to make some MT’s! Come to think of it, I could go for a batch this weekend. These look fantastic, Shashi!
