These little 2-bite, easy Dubai Chocolate Cups are such a treat! These cups are made with a crunchy pistachio kataifi filling suspended in creamy, rich, semi-sweet chocolate.

These cups are creamy and crunchy in texture, sort of like a crispy Reese’s peanut butter cup ~ only, with pistachio butter substituted in for the peanut flavor.

The recipe for these Dubai Chocolate Cups is an easy one. And it is extremely customizable, too.

What are the ingredients to make these easy Dubai Chocolate Cups?

You will need the following four ingredients:

Pistachio butter
Kataifi,
Butter, and
Semi-sweet chocolate

Substitutions

Pistachio butter
I used this homemade pistachio butter to make these cups. This homemade pistachio butter is sugar-free, gluten-free, and dye-free. In that pistachio butter recipe, I used some pistachios I got from Amazon. But my daughter informed me that those pistachios had gone up $5 since I bought them, and she was shopping at Trader Joe’s or Costco for some pistachios to make a batch of pistachio butter and pistachio milk. You could also grab a jar of pre-made Pisatchio butter from Amazon.
Kataifi
I had some dried Kataifi left over after making this Dubai Chocolate Chia pudding and used it in this recipe. Kataifi is finely shredded phyllo dough and can be found on Amazon as well as in most Middle Eastern stores. As for a substitution for kataifi in this recipe, the only one that comes to mind is shredded wheat.
Butter
I used salted butter. The butter in this recipe is used to toast the kataifi. The butter can also be substituted with unsalted butter, ghee, or olive oil. However, if you plan to make a variation of these Dubai chocolate cups and use shredded wheat instead of kataifi, then the butter can be left out.
Semi-sweet chocolate
Any good chocolate would work in this Dubai Chocolate Cups recipe. I have made these cups with Ghirardelli milk chocolate as well as Dark chocolate. And I have even used Lankanta sugar-free chocolate too.

Directions

This recipe is super easy. First, gather all your ingredients.

Then, place the pan over a stove set to medium heat and add the butter to it. When the butter melts, add the kataifi to the pan. Toast the kataifi until it’s golden brown. Make sure to stir the kataifi often as it toasts so it does not burn. Remove the kataifi from the pan and place it on a plate or saucer to cool.

Then, melt the chocolate. There are two ways to do this.
1) My favorite way is to add the chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave it for 30 seconds on high. Then, I remove it from the microwave, give it a good stir, and place it back in the microwave for another 20-30 seconds. By now, the chocolate should be melted. Stir it well.
2) The other option is to use a double boiler or a glass bowl placed over a pot that is similarly sized. The pot will be filled up to the halfway mark with water and set on a stove top set to medium heat. The bowl will be placed on top of it with the chocolate in it. As the water boils, the chocolate will melt. When the chocolate has melted, stir it well, and get ready to assemble these cups.

Place a spoonful of the melted chocolate in the silicone cups.

Then, gently place a spoonful of the pistachio kataifi mixture onto the chocolate.

Top this with more melted chocolate.

Then, place the silicone cups on a plate and place these in the fridge for the chocolate to chill and set. Once the chocolate has set, these cups are ready to enjoy!

Variations

To me, these little Dubai Chocolate Cups are such a delicious and complex dessert with layers of flavors. However, these cups can be jazzed up even more. After that first spoonful of melted chocolate, you could add some sliced bananas or sliced strawberries to these cups. Then, top the sliced fruit with the pistachio kataifi mix. And finish off with more melted chocolate.

You could also add some chopped pistachios to the top layer of chocolate, making these a treat that is sure to be the star of the show!

How to store these cups?

Leftovers of these cups can be stored in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

These Dubai Chocolate cups can also be frozen for a month or so. When ready to enjoy them, they can be thawed out by placing them on a plate on the counter and letting them come to room temperature. I would not recommend microwaving the frozen cups as all sorts of melting in odd places might happen, making these even messier to eat than they already are!
