  1. Yum!

Shashi, these remind me of when Lynne and I were on honeymoon in Kenya.

There were lots of different cakes and biscuits to try out in our hotel restaurant. It was unusual for us to eat cakes and biscuits which were spiced, rather than sweetened with sugar, and I remember tasting the beautiful cardamom. Great tasting memories. Thanks for the memory jog! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. You are so welcome Neil! Sounds like Kenyan sweets have a lot in common with Sri Lankan ones as it was rare for me to not have a cake or cookie that wasn’t flavored with some sort of spice mix. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. These sound so good! I’ve tried a few stevia sweeteners and I find they give a metallic aftertaste – it’s interesting to read that this one doesn’t. I’ll have to give it a go!

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting – yes, Splenda Naturals does not have a bitter taste at all and one packet is plenty sweet enough – at least for me.

  3. Love the combination of these cookies and can’t believe that they are sugar free! I’ve never tried to cut out sugar completely, but with cookies like these I would imagine that it makes things a lot easier ๐Ÿ˜‰ !
I don’t eat a lot of sweets. Though, I do eat fruit regularly. Everyone once in a while I’ll get a craving for cookies or cake and this would be perfect to reach for! Hope you have a lovely weekend!

    1. Dawn, I used to get a craving for cookies and cakes multiple times a day – funny how we are so different in our cravings eh? Btw, thanks so much – I hope your week has been wonderful!

  4. Clearly this learning business doesn’t! I’m sorry to hear that those prescribed meds led to so many troubles. It’s really good to hear that things are turning around for you. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes the holistic approach is all ya need to give your life the positive change you need. I totally applaud you for leaving the bakery empty-handed. Thank you for inspiring all of us to trim the amount of sugar in our diets down a bit. These cookies look amazing, Shashi! <3

  5. I took two months off sugar once, just to see what it would be like. It was just kind of boring and flat. No withdrawal, but food wasn’t as fun. But I’m glad it helped you feel better!
    These cookies look amazing!

    1. Oh wow – you are my idol! I had withdrawl the first couple of weeks – good thing I wasn’t your neighbor or I would have been raiding your kitchen and fridge for ALL your decadent treats!

  6. The flavors already caught my attention. Loooove anything with cardamom, Shashi! And these cookies are also both gluten and sugar-free. I will have to try this recipe of yours!

  7. These look so perfect for the holidays! <3 I definitely need to try making em' soon! I'm so craving some kinda dessert now!

And what what, Korean doughnuts!? :O!?!

  8. These cookies look and sound wonderful. I am a really big fan of cardamom and love that it is in your cookies. I get you with the feeling better when not eating sugar, I did a sugar-free diet a few years ago and I was amazed at how much better I felt. For some reason I, unfortunately, I did not keep up with the sugar-free diet. It is always in the back of mind that I should start it back up again.

    1. Thanks so much Dawn! I love hearing of others who tried a sugar-cleanse. I don’t think I will be completely sugar free at the end of this month, either Dawn, but the whole experience has helped me understand better where I can get away with substituting it.

  9. Way to go on making it through a month, Shashi! It gets easier as time goes by and I love that these yummy cookies have no sugar! The ginger and cardamom combo sound amazing!!

  10. I’m pretty sure I know exactly which bakery you and lil Shashi were standing in! They have amazing cookies…just sayin. ๐Ÿ™‚ But they also make a darned good cup o’ joe, so I get it. We’re trying to cut back a bit here right now to counteract the baby weight gain. (Well sympathy weight gain for me.) The holidays are coming, and we need to be good right now! Speaking of good, these cookies sound delicious. I love cardamom, and I can see how the ginger would be excellent in here. Almost like a gingerbread cookie! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Haha – Dude, that cuppa joe was so good – just makes me jittery thinking about it ๐Ÿ˜‰
Yes, yes – these could be gingerbread cookies if I had upped the ginger – but they hit the spot for me – hope they do for y’all too! Thanks so much David.

  11. I love that these cookies are on the healthier side so I can indulge without feeling guilty! Ginger and cardamom are two of my favorite spices so I would love these cookies!

    1. You sure are right! This one isn’t too hard as you can still use dates and raisins and applesauce etc – the one I was on before didn’t so am loving this challenge ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks so much Zainab

  12. These cookies are so dry & crumbly! It was like eating a ball of flour mixed with almond butter.. which is what it is, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Don’t make these cookies unless that sounds good to you.
