  1. Love the addition of crunchy flax seeds. Just this week I was experimenting with pumpkin and flax seeds and love that texture combo. I so need a waffle iron so that I can make your delicious waffles.

  2. You’re right about food, Shashi. Having moved to Canada from Russia, I think I’ve never missed a specific food which is associated with the past life. There are too many things to try out (and only one stomach hah). Besides, nowdays we’ve got a unique opportunity to try some exotic (to us) food not travelling at all. Isn’t it great? But I won’t lie – I will probably be hesitant to try this woodapple jam due to its…peculiar flavor you’ve described. But I glad that it’s not a combo of apples and wood as I might have though for a second:) Delicious pancakes, too!

  3. Shashi! I haven’t heard before of wood apple looks and sounds like a unique fruit, thank you for making a healthier version of waffles, I think I could easily make this and my daughters wouldn’t notice. Have a nice weekend!

  4. You are so lucky to have had such wonderful culinary travel adventures! I have never heard of woodapple, but I am now so curious and love to learn about new foods. And those waffles look awesome! Great post!

  5. I had to google what woodapple looked like 🙂 and well, it really looks interesting. I will definitely be trying it if I ever get to Sri lanka that is. 🙂 Love these waffles! Every time I see a waffle recipe I wonder why on Earth I have not bought the waffle maker yet!

  6. So I think I remember you mentioning woodapple a while back. What a unique fruit. I watched that video, and I’m pretty sure I would cut off a finger slicing open a woodapple like that guy did. Haha! I’m so glad you stumbled onto the jelly down there. I swear you can find everything in Atlanta! 🙂 Now let’s talk about these waffles though. I love waffles, but I haven’t made them in quite some time. They are the perfect weekend breakfast! I love that you healthified (yes, that’s a word that I made up) these with flax seed and protein powder. Sounds delicious, my friend! Hope you and lil Shashi have a great weekend ahead! 🙂

  7. I’ve never heard of woodapple jam before but by the sounds of it, I would love it. I absolutely LOVE the funk of blue cheese so I think I may have to try and scoop out this woodapple jam thing. I totally know what you mean about rationing out something that you love. I’ve done that before, picking up a hot sauce, for example, that I may not be able to get where I live and only get on travels. It’s rationed out and when it’s gone, it’s such a sad moment. These waffles look so fluffy and delicious! Love the addition of protein powder in there for some extra somethin’ somethin’. Makes b fast a lot more substantial. And the flax in there too is a lovely fiber touch. Just thinking…..maybe make a breakfast sandwich out of these with a smear of woodapple jam, bacon and an egg? Now, I’m hungry!! Cheers to a wonderful weekend, my friend! XOXO

  8. I am a big time fan of waffles and yours look just perfect. Especially love the colors of them. Even more happy to see them loaded with protein. Yum 🙂
