Chicken Keema Samosas
Chicken Keema, or Spiced Ground Chicken, is enveloped in a crescent roll “crust” to make these delicious, easy and healthier Chicken Keema Samosas!
I am sure at some point in our lives, we have all been advocates of the 30-second rule when food hit the floor. Or, maybe, in your case it was the 60-second rule? Or the 3-minute rule? Either way, I am not here to judge – but I do have a story for y’all.
Back during my middle school years, my classmates and I would frequent our school café during lunch time. Now, this was different to the lunch room, as in here you got to purchase several Indian snack foods for just a few Dirhams (I spent my middle school years at an Indian School in Abu Dhabi – hence the currency).
Well, this café had some of the very best samosas we had ever eaten. They were so good that if you didn’t pick up a morsel in 30 seconds – someone else would! They were so good that once when a friend found a cockroach in her samosa, instead of throwing the whole thing out, she ate around it! No lie! These samosas were legendary – and are the highlight of the menu at almost every reunion party!
Now, these samosas are a far cry from those samosas. These are made with a version of that chicken keema I shared not too long ago. And, instead of being fried, these samosas are baked.
I experimented with a phyllo crust, and while the flaky phyllo was a textural delight to the chicken keema, it wasn’t exactly as thick as I wanted the crust to be. So, I opted to use some gluten-free crescent rolls I stumbled on – and they were the perfect balance of crust to filling.
It was a bit tricky figuring out the best folding option, and the end result doesn’t look as appealing as the phyllo samosas were, but, y’all, these tasted so good – y’all would just have to try them to believe me. So prep a tall jar of cold lemonade and get to baking!
BTW – Happy Monday Y’all!

Yum!!! These samosas look delicious… wish I was having them right now for lunch!
Thanks oodles and oodles Sam! Happy Monday 🙂
OH Shashi! These look fabulous and so perfectly made, wish I could grab them from my screen. Samosas are by far my favorite thing to make at home. I could eat them breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Thanks so much Rahul – I’ve seen some of your samosas and you are a samosa making pro so I am humbled and honored at your kind words – thanks so much!
Yum, this is one delicious looking meal! I bet it smells equally amazing with those spices! Thanks for shraing!
Ohmergawrsh – Pamela, the smells were fantabulous! I love spices – they just make everything taste so much better no?
Hope your week is off to a great start!
These samosas are the best Shashi!!! So much fresh and delicious stuffed inside. But the cockroach. The COCK ROACH!!!! Friend – I am going to be thinking about that scene all day long!!!! I have not seen a cockroach in a very long time, and that is a good thing. I cannot even imagine eating my way around one. One that cheery note, have a fabulous week!!!
Hahahaha! What can I say – we were teenagers?!?! Does that excuse work? I wouldn’t dare eat a roach now – but I did eat crickets once – gah – my daughter tricked me to eat them – they were in a fried rice dish made by The Bug Chef who visited Atlanta many moons ago!
Oh, BTW – my daughter and I are thinking of heading to Brick Street Cafe on the 14th – any chance you will be in that neck of the woods? I’ll buy ya a slice of that brick street chocolate cake even? 😉
Well you’re in good company with John the Baptist, though I do believe it was locusts and honey he ingested. Well I wish I was going to be in the Greenville neck of the woods that day, but I won’t be. So eat an extra slice of two for me. I know we are headed down to Samford in Bham in August, maybe I can catch you then. I still can’t believe you were “almost” in VT last weekend. CRAZY! Jet setter girl. We will connect, here or there!
I bet the aroma is amazing with all those wonderful spices! And such a nice quick and easy way to make samosas, love it!
Thanks so much Chris – you are spot on about the aroma – thanks to ’em spices!
I can only imagine the wonderful smells that come out of the kitchen when you make this filling!
Do you think these would freeze well?
Thanks so much Jordan!
I am not sure how these would freeze – I’ve never had any leftover to freeze. Now I do know the chicken keema filling will freeze just fine – just not sure of the samosas.
Haha, we always called it the 10 second rule but I’ll buy 30. My grandmother said you have to eat a peck of dirt before you die! I love all the spices in the filling! These would be great appetizers for summer picnics! Thanks for sharing!
Hahaha – I don’t know your grandmother – but I absolutely LOVE her saying! Thanks so much and here’s to eating a peck of dirt from time to time 😉
My wife loves samosas. This filling looks delicious.
Thanks so much Peter!
I definitely prefer mine cockroach free. These are the perfect little pockets of chicken goodness. Love all the flavors inside and will have to make these soon. They look delicious!
Haha – YASSSS- these samosas are definitely better ‘roach free! 🙂
Thanks so much Ali!
I wish my middle school had a cafe! Shoot I wish my high school had a cafe… but without cockroaches in the food. I live by the 5 second (shoot even 1 minute) rule in my house, but not anywhere else… I know what’s been on my floor, so I feel safe. Other floors? Not so much. And especially not so much if cockroaches are involved!! lol
Anyways, I love Samosas, but I’ve never had Chicken Keema before… or at least I don’t think I have? These look beyond delicious, Shashi! Flaky and filled with fabulous flavors! I want to reach through my screen and steal all yoru samosas, girlfriend! Cheers dear!
Aww you are so sweet – thanks so much Cheyanne!
Chicken Keema is just gloriously spiced up ground chicken – you could even use ground turkey – all those spices kinda drown out the taste of the meat – at least for me.
Yes – that cafe was nice – but I don’t think it would have been upto health standards here – but hey – protein is protein right?! Ok maybe not quite – but… 🙂
Hope your week is off to a wonderful start! xx
I have just recently been enjoying Indian flavors. These sound so easy to make and so full of flavor, I’ve just got to find time to add them to my menu this week! I think you made a good call on the crescent roll dough! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Renee!
You could also use store-bought pizza dough – when it comes to dough, I am not the best at making my own so I resort to shortcuts! Thanks for stopping by.
I definitely hold the 5-second rule at home, but not on the dirty floors at work (I work in a school, so gross). But I do not hold by cockroaches in my food. I would’ve gotten rid of that, even if it were the best treat ever. I would have been sad, of course. But I like my protein a different way…
These look incredible. I’ve got to try the GF crescent dough!
Hahaha – I don’t blame ya for liking your protein a different way, Mir!
And – you know what?! heck, I don’t think I’d even let my dogs eat off a school floor!
Thanks so much BTW!
Haha! The 5-second (or 30-second…) rule is totally in effect around here. That is, if you can beat the dogs to it. So I only had samosas for the first time a couple of years ago. Laura convinced me to try them, and they were amazing! I’m totally hooked. I can only imagine how good these would be with the spiced chicken filling. But hold the cockroaches on mine, please. (Umph!)
OHMEGAWSH – I so know what you mean, my younger dog (Ollie) is super past – when food hits the floor, he gets to it in like 0.002 seconds and the chap lets a squirrel outrun him in the back yard!!! The power of food eh?! 🙂
Yay for Laura – that there gal is a keeper I tell ya!
And here I’ve never heard of a samosa! They kiiiiind of look like pierogies with different filling though.. I could bet money they’re delicious, especially when homemade!
Erin, this is more what a samosa really looks like – at least the ones I grew up on http://www.ulmcampaigns.net/Patel/Southernsamosa.html that crust on them is super crispy as they are fried – they are not as soft as pierogies usually are – at least the pierogies I’ve had.
BTW – Thanks so much!
Awesome! I’ve always wanted to make samosas!
Thanks bunches Rebecca!
BTW You can also use GF pizza dough as the “Crust”.
I wish I could have a few of them for the lunch! Love that curry ground meat filling!
Thanks so much Angie!
Happy Monday!
