If you love the combination of sweet and spicy flavors in one mouthful, this sauce is for you. Easy and versatile, this plant-based spicy mango sauce is thick and finger-licking delicious. It pairs well with vegetarian burgers, meat burgers, as well as roasted veggies and meat.
I love to slather a chicken burger with this sauce, sandwich it between burger buns, along with lettuce, tomato, onions, avocado, and all the fixings that will fit onto it (and into my mouth)! I also love dipping zucchini chips, celery, and veggie croquettes into this sauce as well.
This easy spicy mango sauce is one of those sauces that’s best eaten in the confines of your home because that way you can lick your fingers and your plate clean without any judgment!

Here’s what makes this spicy mango sauce so good, for me:
- It is so delicious,
- It is gluten-free,
- It is a vegan and versatile sauce that pairs well with everything from veggies to meats,
- It is free of refined sugar,
- It is quick to make, and
- It is made with only 9 natural ingredients.

What are the ingredients needed to make this mango sauce?
The 9 ingredients that are needed to make this Spicy Mango Sauce are:
- Mango
Fresh ripe mango adds so much flavor and sweetness to this sauce. It is currently mango season here in Georgia, and mangoes seem to be on sale everywhere. However, if you cannot find fresh mangoes, then canned mango puree could be used instead. - Oil
I used a mild olive oil to sauté the onion, ginger, and garlic for this recipe.
Onion
I used a yellow onion as a red onion would affect the color of this sauce. - Garlic
Fresh garlic cloves are best for this recipe for flavor and nutritional benefits. - Ginger
As with the garlic, fresh ginger works best in this recipe. - Cumin
With its nutty, smoky flavor and heady, pungent aroma, cumin adds so much flavor and aroma to this hot sauce. I usually get cumin from a grocery store, a South Asian store, or from Amazon. - Turmeric
Slightly peppery and bitter, a little turmeric goes a long way. And, it adds so much color to this recipe. Turmeric can also be found at most grocery stores or can be purchased on Amazon. - Chilli powder
Chillies add heat to this mango chilli sauce. Feel free to add as much, or as little as you want. Instead of chili powder, cayenne powder could also be used. Instead of chilli powder or cayenne powder, fresh jalapeno or habanero peppers could also be used, as I did in this mango habanero chutney. Just make sure to wear gloves when handling them. - Coconut milk
I like to use full-fat coconut milk to add a creamy texture. It also brings all the ingredients together so well. - Maple syrup
I like to add just a hint of maple syrup to this hot sauce. However, if the mango is very ripe and sweet, I omit the maple syrup.
I also used salt and black pepper to season this spicy mango sauce.
Recipe tips
- Most stores sell pre-peeled and chopped onion, ginger, and garlic, so if you prefer, this could be used instead. The store-bought pre-peeled and chopped onion, ginger, and garlic would cut down on prep time, but would be the less budget-friendly option.
- If you want to add a bit of acidity to this easy spicy mango sauce, then add in a teaspoon of lime juice or apple cider vinegar.

Instructions
Step 1: Peel and chop the onion, garlic, ginger, and mango.
Step 2: Add the oil to a medium saucepan and set it on a stove with the heat level set to medium heat. Then add in the onion, ginger, and garlic to the pan and saute over medium heat for 8-10 minutes – stirring often so the ingredients don’t burn.
Step 3: Then remove from the heat and add the sautéed onion, ginger, and garlic mixture to a blender or food processor.
Step 4: Also, add the spices: the turmeric, cumin, and chili powder to the blender. Pour in the coconut milk and maple syrup.
Step 5: Blend for a few seconds until all ingredients are well incorporated and the sauce is creamy.
Step 6: Season with salt and pepper to taste and enjoy!

Serving suggestions
This easy spicy mango sauce is delicious on burgers and hot dogs. It is even tasty on a burger made with avocado instead of buns!
It can also be served with roasted veggies, roasted or grilled chicken, shrimp, pork, or beef.
This spicy sauce also works well as a topping on tacos and scrambled eggs!
It can also be added to a charcuterie board with crackers, cheese, mango chutney, crunchy and colorful veggies like green, red, and orange bell peppers, fruit, and nuts.
Like this sweet chili sauce, it also makes a great dipping sauce for fritters, croquettes, veggie crudites, and more.
